Making Memories

Making Memories

Gathering Place participants tell us that, from the moment they first hear the doctor say “I’m sorry, it’s cancer,” everything else becomes just a blur. Days, weeks and months can pass by in a fog. One’s sense of time changes so that whole seasons are forgotten. It is for this very reason that we offer programs and services that help whole families regain this lost time, reframing it in a more helpful light.

Our clay instructor, Maureen Moses, ATR, said that she often tries to incorporate memories in her projects at The Gathering Place, helping our participants see the people and events that have shaped their lives. All of our experiences, both negative or positive, can be honored for the part they played in making us who we are today.

In this calendar you will find several offerings that guide patients and their family through these memories. In keeping with the approaching holidays and the human tendency to perform an end-of-the-year personal assessment, we invite you to honor your experience, and look ahead with new eyes.

Making Memories: A Scrapbook Group*

Participants will learn basic skills in scrapbooking and memory preservation in this 4-week group. You will complete a scrapbook to take home. We provide the book and supplies, you bring the photos or mementoes you'd like to include. Join Pam Turos, LSW, of Enduring Notions, for four Mondays, 1:00-3:00 pm beginning November 6th through November 27th. Advance registration required.

Make and Take*

Join us for a Holiday "Make-and-Take" scrapbook event! Give the gift of memories this holiday season by creating a one of a kind mini album for you or someone you love.  All you need is a few of your favorite photos and we will provide the rest.  Group leader, Pam Turos, LSW, of Enduring Notions, will lead you step by step through the process. By the end of this session you will be experienced in several scrapbook techniques and you will have a completed project to take home. Monday, December 4th, 1:00 – 3:00 pm. Advance registration required.

Creative Cards*
Join in the creative process to make your own greeting cards. Learn how to express personal sentiments to special people in your life using collage techniques, rubber stamps, special papers, personal photographs, and dried flowers. Each class has a theme, including topics such as thankfulness, celebration, and hope for the future. Join Maureen Moses, ATR on four Thursdays, November 2nd, 9th, and 30th and December 7th, from 1:00-3:00 pm. Participants are encouraged to attend all four sessions. Advance registration required.

And, don’t forget the two day event led Maureen Murdock, author of The Heroine’s Journey.  In conjunction with the C.J. Jung Educational Center of Cleveland, she offers a free community lecture on Friday November 3rd at 7pm called “The Heroine’s Journey: Healing the Deep Wounding of the Feminine”, and an all day writing workshop on Saturday November 4th, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm titled “Making Meaning From Myth and Memoir.” There is a cost for the Saturday workshop. For more information or to register for either event, please contact the Jung Society at 440-779-7538 or jungcleveland@yahoo.com
