The Gathering Place and Cleveland Dragon Boat Festival
On Saturday, August 7th, over 25 participants and staff from The Gathering Place will participate in the annual Cleveland Dragon Boat Festival on the West bank of the Cuyahoga River. This is the first year that The Gathering Place has entered a team for the festival. Cancer survivors, their family and friends and staff from The Gathering Place started practicing on June 16th and meet every Wednesday at 6:00pm to practice. Participants look forward to coming together and have formed a camaraderie provides the much needed energy and strength for paddling the dragon boats down the Cuyahoga. Not too many people miss practice, even when they have a wedding anniversary to celebrate. Just ask Maggie and Gabe Fernandez who recently celebrated their 30th anniversary on a practice run. Proceeds from this year's festival will come to The Gathering Place to help support the free programs and services provided to individuals and families touched by cancer.
