Volunteer With Us

Volunteers are an integral part of our community, contributing to our success through their support, dedication and experience.

Volunteers work with our participants in our Education Center, our children’s programs and as greeters in our reception area. They also assist with clerical responsibilities, help tend Norma’s Garden, help coordinate special events, attend health fairs, present information to community groups about The Gathering Place and work at The Gathering Place Warehouse.

VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

Indirect Services:

1. Special Events:

 Race for the Place-help with our annual run/walk to celebrate National Cancer Survivorship (April-early June) Helping with one day special events (as needed) Supply baked goods or other refreshments for special programs (as needed)

2. The Gathering Place Home Furnishings Warehouse

 Assist with sales of donated fine household items at our Warrensville Heights Warehouse (as needed)

3. Miscellaneous

 Clerical help (as needed)  Data Entry (as needed) Garden weeding and watering (May-September; east location only)

Direct Services:

* The following volunteer positions require a training session and a personal interview

1. * Greeter: (Adults 18 years or older)

 Responsibilities include answering phones and transferring calls, greeting visitors and giving tours of our facility, registering participants for programs and services, performing some administrative and clerical tasks (must be comfortable multi-tasking and interacting with various types of people including those in crisis). Weekly commitment required for 2-3 hour shift.

2. * Children’s Program: (Adult volunteers 18 years or older will need to complete our background check).

 Assist child specialists in the various children’s programs (Adults 18 years or older) Playroom supervision (14 years or older) Work alongside staff in our summer animal camp for children (18 years or older – requires a week-long commitment)

3. * Outreach: (Adults 18 years or older)

 Represent the organization by distributing and sharing information about our programs and services at community events, health fairs, etc. Responsibilities include picking up and returning outreach materials at The Gathering Place, driving to various locations east and/or west of Cleveland, setting up outreach display and interacting with various types of people. Community or Physician Ambassador – Responsibilities include picking up and delivering Gathering Place materials quarterly to assigned locations in various communities.

4. * Education Center/Library: (Adults 18 years or older)

 Assist participants in their search for information (must be comfortable using the computer and have good interpersonal skills). Perform administrative and clerical tasks as needed by our medical librarian.

5. * Breast Cancer Connection (for breast cancer survivors)

 Provide phone support to participants who are newly diagnosed with breast cancer.

6. * Healing Arts (females only – 21 years or older with at least one year of experience; background check and references required)
